Ok, wow...so I've basically vanished into the rabbit hole for the past month and a half. I've had to keep up with so many things, and have took on a couple of surprises and new beginnings since the last time I was here. But I'm back; resurrected, refined, and ready to go full throttle.

For me, January felt like the twilight zone; a portal between the past, and the new adventures that were headed my way. I started second semester, met new people, experienced new things, and tried to acquire new perspectives on the world and myself. It was kind of a hermit phase, but a needed one at that. February has been great so far. I turned the big 1-9, legitimately being able to celebrate legality over a birthday week that was filled with coolers, concerts, new friends, and lots and lots of champagne. Lucky for me, my birthday was on reading week so it was a much needed break and cause for chaos.

But now I'm back at school, and I pretty much have no choice but to force myself out of fantasy land, back to whatever semblance of normal there was when I left. However, I will definitely find more downtime to unwind and write about what I've been up to and my side of things, out here on the West Coast. I'm back-up and running. Come join the ride.

It's the New Year, love.

For those who thought I fell off the face of the planet, I'm still here, living, breathing, fashionable, and full of ambition for the New Year. Sorry for the delayed post, this winter break was so unbelievably busy I'm still winded and recuperating from it. I feel as though I need an extended vacation to recover from the break I already had.

Never the less, I have only one word to describe the past 3 weeks: EPIC. They have been filled with overwhelming delight, spazmatic tendencies, ultimate highs, unbelievable lows, presents, new sights, wins, losses, and like any monumental vacation, late nights turned into early mornings. My friend from Toronto came to visit, and I got to show her how it's done out here, over in the West Coast. Of course, I shopped so much I'm pretty sure I burned a hole through my wallet, but hey, at least I have a new wardrobe to vouch for it. I'm looking for a new camera as well, so hopefully in the near future there will be posts filled with new outfits.

New years was an out right RAGER to say the least. Being the new year and all, I think that nothing less is expected (pictures are posted at the end of the post). 2010 was the end of an era for me, the end of my first book, closing it and burning it in order to allow a crisp new memoir to be written. I finished high school with bitter sweet relief, sad to say goodbye to all that I know, but excited to shed the juvenile connotation associated with it. I moved to an entirely new and uncharted city, started working at a new job, and started my first year at university. I met new friends, began new relationships, and started trotting down a fresh new path of self awareness and discovery. I don't know what is to be expected for the new year, although I do have some hopes and aspirations to be fulfilled by the end of it. For one, I hope to gain a higher sense of self in all aspects; thought, character, perspective, and yes, even style. I want to embrace my spirituality and let go of most of the superficial and materialistic qualities I attribute with. I know, quite a touchy subject, seeing as though I am pursuing a career in fashion editorial, however, I believe in a balance, and as long as you can sustain the two polarities, there is always room for acceptance and self growth. I want to become better aware of my surroundings and the society and world that I live in. I hope to evolve into the young adult that I see for myself. Most of all, I hope for world peace. HAHA, JUST KIDDING. However, inner peace would suffice.

I wanted to keep it short and sweet, but I feel as though I've just written a presidential speech, so I'm going to leave it at this for now. I hope you all had a splendid break. I promise not to be gone for too long.

Sorry for being M.I.A. the last week and a half. My brains been on overload with finals, work, christmas, friends, and sometimes I feel like it might overheat. I've been so tired lately, but it's probably because I've gotten 4 hours of sleep in the past three weeks- I feel like I should be on The Walking Dead.

Sometime's I feel like my life resembles a track meet, or maybe even a relay race. I'm running as fast as I can to finish and win, but at the same time I have to keep in mind that it's not always a one-man show. And I feel with every person I pass the baton to, I'm sharing a piece of myself, along with relying on them to help me finish my race- to help me understand a piece of myself.

My best friend from Toronto is visiting me in Vancouver for the winter holidays. I love her so much and I'm so happy to have a bit of home here with me. She always has the right answers (well, most of the time), and she's someone I can rely on to tell me the truth and her honest opinions. I on the other hand teach her that we don't always have to live according to the guidelines. We rely on one another to expose us to the other side of the spectrum that we don't know.

She was here with me to celebrate my first Christmas in Vancity. At first, it didn't really feel like Christmas all that much because there isn't any snow here, and since I was a kid I always equated Christmas with a beautiful snowfall. It did feel like Christmas when I got to open my presents though; it brought back nostalgic feelings of not being able to sleep on Christmas eve, pulling a Sherlock Holmes and trying to investigate the contents of my gifts- shaking them and guessing what could be inside. Thankfully I've grown to become more patient (well, at least more than when I was a kid), and I waited until the morning to open my presents.

My mom was a sweetheart and bought me the Pop Art Limited Edition of Marc Jacobs' Daisy. To me it's one of the best fragrances in the world because it's very light and airy but it still has a very distinctly fresh and feminine smell. It includes tones of wild strawberry, violet leaves, red grapefruit, gardenia, violet, jasmine, musk, vanilla and white woods. It's the perfect combination to create a scent that represents innocent mischief; a youthful fragrance with a zest of sophistication and sass.

My uncle bought me the Chanel No. 19 and it's a womanly scent which I'm not used to but it's useful for nights when I'm going to a fancy dinner, or out for drinks. Unlike Daisy, it's not a scent that can be worn everyday, however, when you do where it, it provides you with that extra bit of bang.

I did some research on this fragrance and what's interesting is that it was made to commemorate Coco Chanel's birthday (August 19th). It's a deep fragrance that has a green scent, similar to that of a wild forest. What I love about fragrances is that they are just like accessories. Accenting your outfit with a nice fragrance gives that extra touch of creativity and personality. The perfume one wears can be a great reflection of their persona.

My best friend from back home also bought me a great present to help me indulge in my inner nerd. She bought me the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy- the version with the rest of the stories as well. People who know me know that I'm the ultimate bookworm. My favourite thing to do to relax, above all else, is to simply read a book, nurture my mind, and relieve the chaos that is everyday life.

With all of these gifts, this fashion bitch is able to look stealthy, SMELL phenomenal, and blow people's minds out of the water.

It's great and in fact necessary in life for people to be independent. But sometimes, you need people along the way to help remind you what you're here for, and of the person you want to be. I'm grateful to have a webwork of family and good friends who are here to support me, yet also enrich my mind along my journey.

My favourite part of creating an outfit is adding that final touch of accessories to bring the entire look together. Everyone knows that I am very well an accessories wench. I love wearing as many rings as I can, and filling my arms with as many bangles as possible. Jewelry and accessories are just like clothes; there's some that are edgier and meant for bolder looks, while there are some (like pearls for instance) that are meant for softer and daintier looks. It's not to say though that you can't wear a Courtney Love inspired outfit and rock a pair of pearls- I actually love when people contrast their clothes with their accessories, it adds that certain 'je ne sais quoi'.

I thrift a lot with my accessories, especially scarves, purses, and rings. But there is one place that I absolutely adore and I often buy my jewelry from. Girlz Luv Jewelry is a company that was created by a lady named Elaine. I was lucky enough to get to meet her when I worked at a boutique back home in Toronto. She showcased a lot of the pieces at the boutique, and clients, as well as myself, all went absolutely insane over the jewelry. Each piece is so unique and intricate- there's a lot of detailing that goes into it. There's also such a range and variety within the assortment, so anybody from a young adult to an older woman can find a piece that she loves! It's dainty and subtle enough so that I can wear it with almost all of my outfits, but detailed enough that it does make a statement when I wear it. In this case, simplicity defies all. It's a simple long gold chain with a tiny pendant, but it adds that touch of femininity and graciousness.

Lazy Days

Wow, so I've been succumbed to a classic epidemic...the couch potato virus. I can't, I won't, hell, I refuse to get up and do anything but sleep and be lazy, and it's been like this for the past couple of days now. It's probably because last week I was plagued with 4 exams in a row, and now I'm pooped. I should be studying for my Psych final this Friday, but I'de rather let my brain rot a little and watch some good ol' television, than look up on metacognition and causality.

Such a tiring, but not to say successful weekend. I realized a couple of new things about myself along the way as well. For one, although I thrive on impulsiveness and being reckless, I do enjoy some semblance of order. Whether it's following the instructions on how to make Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup (I'm eating some now as I type away, seriously a Godsend), to planning out the events of my night, I do appreciate a set rule of thumb, even though they usually end up being broken. I also realized that I love cooking and munching out like a little piglet. I learned how to cook a delicious steak with salad for dinner, and I even went all out for breakfast this morning- an omelet with peppers, onions, and tomatoes, the meal of champions my friends. I also discovered that I enjoy being a hermit and sleeping in until late afternoon, especially on rainy days. It's a really good way to just recharge your energy after being completely drained. But, enough of this banter, we are here to discuss art and fashion, and other ways to save the world, so let's begin.

Friday I finished my philosophy final and set off in pursuit of true knowledge; is it better to thrift or to buy brand new? I would say, as long as there's balance, doing both would be having the best of both worlds. I like to buy my basics brand new just because you can purchase them anywhere. However, there are also times when I see eclectic pieces at retailers and I do buy them because they're unique pieces that I can add to my wardrobe. For instance, the beautiful wool sweater that I picked up this weekend. The knitting is really detailed, and it looks so cozy and feels so warm on- it's safe to say that it was perfectly suited for my hermit phase.

I also picked up a pair of brand new Jeffrey Campbell Wedges. Being 5'11'' without heels, I rarely feel the need to increase my height, but these shoes are too sexy. I had to have them. I love how they're comfortable and I can basically run a marathon in them. Coming from someone who's clumsiness reeks havoc, it feels good to have a pair of heels I can rock and look fab in- without feeling like a giant fool.

Retailers provide room for a variety and large supply, which is great, however, if you do want to nab that one of a kind item that everyone drools over, that's where thrifting comes into play. Thrift shopping is a great way to not only add unique pieces to your closet, but it's so cheap and inexpensive that you don't have to feel guilty and not eat anything for the next week. When I thrift I usually look for cool purses and accessories to add to my collection, or nice old school jeans that I can throw on when I'm being indecisive. Thrifting is a great way to amp your wardrobe up and pick up cool pieces that are beautifully unique and wallet friendly. Some of my great finds from thrifting are my Philippe Charriol Dark Green Leather Purse, my Matt and Nat side bag, a really neat Fendi purse, and a ridiculous amount of beautiful silk scarves ranging from designers like Pierre Cardin to Anne Klein. This weekend, I also bought a beautiful Tweed Hunter Jacket from the Used vintage store in downtown Vancouver (a post about this wonderful vintage boutique will be up shortly). The jacket is beautifully form-fitting, and has great details from the buttons to the suede elbow patches. A vintage find like this makes thrifting so worth it, because you're never really going to find something with such a great quality, design, and fit, at such an affordable price point. I paired my Tweed Jacket with the knit sweater that I also bought, black skinny jeans, and my hunter boots, and I seriously looked like a character out of Sherlock Holmes- a fashion savvy character to say the least. It's great to have a balance between thrifting and retail purchases, because you can build your wardrobe with essentials and eclectic pieces that showcase your personality.

This weekend I also realized that I totally have a "girl-crush" on super hero and fashion guru, Alexa Chung. She's so fucking fabulous. I love her style because it's a hub-shmub of everything; from rocker, to pixie, to punk, to geek chic, her style has a variety and has many in betweens. I like that she's a chameleon in the sense that one day she dresses very dainty and girly, and the next she's edgy and bold. Yet in the end, she's still able to have that hint of classic femininity. She has a great eye for fashion, and does a good job of mix-matching patterns, colours, and textures. I also appreciate her ability to remain conservative and conventional in the sense that she doesn't need to show a lot of skin or wear a tiny outfit to look beautiful. She keeps the cuts simple and clean, and in the end, less becomes more. Loving this fab it girl! Here are some of my favourite looks of hers.

The beauty of fashion is that it is an art form. You can wake up in the morning feeling like total crap, but then throw on a pair of your nicest skinnies and a vintage blazer, and you're ready to hit the town and cause a ruckus. You can be in your sixties, but then throw on a dainty dress and feel like a kid again, or put on your studded leather jacket and feel like a rockstar. The ability to transform into what you want to be is a physical expression of art in the form of fashion. It's you're ability to express on the outside what is within.

Cupcake candles and Winter scandals

These past two weeks were intensely filled with school, work, and art, but most importantly, friends and family. School is finally done, and now it's exam season, so I'm trying to cram in as much studying as possible so that it won't turn out an utter fail. I should be fine though. Work is the usual- just work. But, I do have to be thankful that ONE, I am working, and TWO, I do work at a pretty hip store, and it can be pretty enjoyable, other than the times when people are hysterically running around with a 12 page list of christmas gifts. As for art, it's been great! I've had really great luck the past two weeks with finding cool pieces and nic nacs to add to my ever-growing collection. I scored two disgustingly rare posters from a friend of mine who owns a record shop in Vancouver. There's a super-cool Phish poster, and the other is Rage Against the Machine (love them!). The same friend was also ridiculously kind enough to give me a brand new CD that I will cherish forever. Knowing the fashion freak that I am, he gave me a wicked Karl Lagerfeld 2-disc CD compilation, that I am currently listening to now as I'm typing away. It's great! Absolutely great! It's put together by Karl himself, and the first CD is a mix of all the songs he likes to listen to when he is at home, and the second CD is an "at work, fashion show mix". SO RADICAL! The man is such a fashion guru, and he has a ridiculously eccentric and fab taste in music.

I was fortunate enough to have a friend give this to me, but you can nab it online, just google "Karl Lagerfeld: Les Musiques que j'aime". Wow, I really can't believe how stealthy his taste is, he's so damn cool. LOVE KARL!

I picked up some cool pieces for my wardrobe as well these past couple of days. Pictures will be posted up soon, but being the scatterbrained Aquarius that I am, I have absolutely no idea where my USB chord for my camera is, so until then, I'm doomed. I grabbed this awesome Oversized Batwing Blazer from my store (Urban Outfitters) the other day. Completely obsessed with it!

It's such a great piece, because it can be thrown over any outfit to give it that extra zest of chic. The colour and texture are also fabulous. What I love most about it is that it doesn't look like your average blazer that has full length sleeves and is fitted. It's oversized shape gives you the ability to dress it up or down, making it a really versatile piece in your wardrobe.

I also scored a FABULOUS BB Dakota Long Hooded Toggle Coat from my store! It's a beautiful chalky grey, with a lovely oversized hood. I love that the jacket is quite heavy when you hold it, but when you put it on it's so form fitting and light- yet it still keeps you nice and cozy. I really needed a chic winter coat, especially since this time of year is notorious for bulk and anything but glamourous. I seriously hit the jackpot with this find. Not only will it keep me nice and warm for the cold winter days, but it's chic enough that I won't look like a total bulk-monster wearing it.

This is the navy blue, but I bought mine in the grey.

Also, I picked up a wicked pair of vintage destroyed Banana Republic Skinny jeans, and Armani sunglasses from my local thrift shop. So all in all, I had some great luck in finding necessary and eclectic pieces to add to my growing closet.

As for friends and family, winter holidays are one of the best times to get together, get cozy, and make awesome memories. Last weekend Keren and I went to a friend's party and had one hell of a time. There were awesome people, fantastic music, and mind-altering home made brew and long island iced tea- winning combo much?

I had a blast at the party! Whenever you're cooped up with exams, and weighed down by stressful times, it's great to let loose and hang out with awesome people who know how to get down and have a good time.

Another lovely bonus about the holiday season is getting cozy with friends, and relaxing to a nice meal, nice company, and great entertainment. A friend of Keren and mine lives the ultimate bachelor life; he has a party pad that is full of crazy times and fun people, but it sometimes lacks in the domestic department. We decided to go over there and cook a hearty meal; steak, mash potatoes, and green beans- with ice cream for dessert of course. We had a really great time; whenever I want to mellow out I love getting together with close friends and cooking a nice family meal, chilling out, and watching nice show or movie. We left the entertainment up to him, and he introduced us to a fucking phenomenal show. The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series of the zombie apocalypse. It's safe to say that I'm obsessed now- it's such a good show, and it prepares you for the future in case zombies decide to take over the world.

I really love the winter season. Not only can you get super creative with your wardrobe, but it's a great time to just mellow out and be with the people that you love, doing the things that make you happy. It takes an extra bit of creativity and ingenuity, but in the end, if you're with the right people, and in the right place, winter time can be epic.

"Her name's Penny Lane, and I love her!"

Those of you who know me, know that not only is Almost Famous one of my favourite movies, but the 70's era itself is one of my favourite generations. I'm all about the tree-hugger, jam out to great music, chill out and smoke pot scene, and the 60's and 70's were the epitome of that!

Almost Famous is a beautiful semi-autobiographical adaptation of Cameron Crowe's life (the director for the movie). He is portrayed as William Miller- a 15 year old who got the radical opportunity to go on tour with the band Still Water, and write a piece on them for Rolling Stone Magazine (sighhh, my dream job). The movie has wicked music, a hilarious cast, and a wonderful story behind it. Most admiringly, it replicated the way people in the 70's dress to a tee.

"Her name's Penny Lane, and I love her." Will said that in the movie, but I think the entire world fell at her feet too. She was the airy-fairy, hippie, "band aid" (a girl who IS NOT a groupie, because they are only dedicated to one band, which I found really cute). Her loving, care-free, and wild personality caught the attention of everyone, but her personality was also infused into her style, which was very admirable. Of course, we have to take note that there was a costume designer who made this magic happen, and her name is Betsy Heimann. However, the movie felt so utterly true, that you almost forget that it isn't real. But that's the magic of fashion isn't it? The option to dress up and play "make-believe" if you want to- floral princess by day, slayer by night (haha totally kidding, but you get the point).

Anywho, let me get back to the point. PENNY LANE. Who is she? What is she? She is a bohemian princess, the goddess of air, the epitome of free. She is the beacon of light that shines on us and lifts us from our despair. Her light and effervescent personality is so beautifully crafted into her personal style, which is why she is one of my all time style icon's- HANDS DOWN.

Penny Lane has a fabulous eclectic style, which ranges from simple and understated, to bohemian-chic princess. She has the chameleon-like ability to blend from one look to the next perfectly, which is one of the greatest assets to have.

Now, let's get to the nitty-gritty and showcase this beautiful lady's exquisite style. One of my FAVOURITE outfits of her's in the movie is the spectacular faux-fur coat that she dons.

She look's like a fucking rock goddess here, I LOVE IT! The coat is a beautiful brown, and has the faux-fur lining on the collar. What's great about this look is that even 30 years after, it's still hot and all the rave. As well, although it is one of her swankier outfits in the movie, it still stays true to her bohemian roots.

Of course, living in the era that she was and all, simplicity was definitely key, and she hit the nail with the hammer on all of the outfits that were simple and understated, yet with a hint of personality. A fave of mine is the suede camel skirt and embroidered peasant blouse, so airy yet down to earth at the same time.

Another one of her simpler looks is so killer, and I want it in my wardrobe so badly I'de give up breakfast for a month. I adore her ivory coloured lace and silk camisole. It's so dainty and feminine, but when she pairs it with her high waisted trousers, she can rock out in them all night and feel like a superstar.

LOVE LOVE LOVING THIS LOOK SO MUCH!

This shear silk blouse that she's wearing is also phenomenal. I'm all about simplicity and beauty- something that is predominant in all of her outfits. Going gaga over her hair too- so pretty!

Penny also wears this absolutely luxe ivory fur hat! What's so great about the hat, and in fact, the rest of her wardrobe, is that even in the modern day and age that we are in now, we can still wear these items and not look outdated.

Fucking fabulous!

Although throughout the movie she keeps it quite simple and chic, she lets her hair hang loose and goes all out during the end, when she wears this coy little blue number.

The dress has unbelievable embroidery on the hemline, adding that extra touch of delicacy and beauty.

So, who is Penny Lane you still might ask? She is an eternal safe heaven of love and fancy. A free-spirit so humble, allowing us to be at ease with ourselves. Penny Lane inspires us to venture into the unknown and explore who WE are as individuals. I love you Penny Lane, with all your airy-fairy shenanigans, and bohemian eccentricities.

Siouxsie Sioux

Dark makeup, dark hair, dark clothes. Practically everyone I know has rocked this look, yet they have no knowledge behind the fabulous front woman who ignited it all.

Susan Janet Ballion, better known as Siouxsie Sioux, is the punk icon, the true goth, the ultimate originator. She has become my muse and fall/winter inspiration for this year. Born in England in 1957, Siouxsie was the innovator of dark clothing, dark makeup, and dark hair. The original female punk rock chick, Siouxsie reinvented the punk rock scene, and opened the path for females alike who emanate her punk rock style. Her trademark style is still hot on the runways even now; black hair, black clothes, dark red lipstick, and of course the ever so popular "cat eye" liner. Her brilliant style was her own, yet it carried out 50 years later, making an impact on future generations.

Siouxsie is considered to be "one of the most influential British singers of the rock era". Her music has influenced a variety of artists including LCD Soundsystem, Tricky, Jeff Buckley, and Massive Attack. Even it girl, celeb spawn, columnist and designer Peaches Geldof's design inspirations stem from Siouxsie Sioux. She has the beautiful and rare ability to connect with all types of people, and inspire them in fashion and music. Especially in the year of 2008, when the punk rock trend started hitting the runways again, Siouxsie was a great inspiration for designers like Vivienne Westwood, who is also known for her edgy and dark glamour.

Although Siouxsie typified herself as a "loner", it was her edgy, dark, and reckless attitude that inevitably got her to be recognized. In a generation where women were told to conform to the standards given to them, Siouxsie refused. She stayed true to herself, and dressed how she wanted to, which in the end is exactly what fashion is all about. Siouxsie not only inspired males, but she paved the path for females who also refused to conform to the rules of their society. In the day and age of Marilyn and Audrey, Siouxsie's eclectic style was a beacon of hope for the outcasts and rebels in the society- those that didn't fit in with the rest of the world. She gave them another outlet to look at, amongst the thousands of generic copies that typified a women into someone who wore dresses and heels and had to look "pretty". This eccentric beauty not only helped make what the punk rock scene is today, but she also created a fashion forward movement that is still on the scene, and will always be! She is the originator and true definition of punk rock style.

I feel as though everything is just beginning now. Even though I headed out to Vancity in the Summer, it seems like Winter is going to be the catalyst for fresh experiences. It's funny though, because I really hate the cold. Even right now, it's 6 degrees below zero, and I refuse to step outside today, let alone go to school. So instead, I'm broadening my horizons and taking in as much as possible without having to get up :)

I feel like winter time is the perfect time to really get in tune with yourself, check out new things, read new books, listen to new music, and really reflect on yourself and the things that you like and make you who you are. And in the end, it's these new experiences and ventures that allow you to step outside the zone of normality and really experience life and gain new perspectives.

This winter, I'm making a promise to myself that I am going to get in touch with my artistic side. The other day, my best friend Keren and I went to a great art store and I bought a sketch book and some mediums such as pencils, crayons, and markers, so that I can start drawing. I want to use my sketchbook and make it a semi-memoir of myself; drawing images that I like, making collages, and just sticking in bits and pieces of myself that I want to remember in ten years from now. Keren's a great artist, and she's really helping me get a sense for my own individual artistic style. She introduced me to her favourite artist, Kime Buzzelli. You've probably seen Kime's drawings for the makeup line Urban Decay. Here are some of my favourite pieces by her.

I love her beautiful use of watercolours, and her unique drawing style. It's very feminine, yet has a touch of gothic beauty. There's something very personal about her work, and I love how you can look at her pictures and really draw an emotion from the paintings. So happy that Keren introduced me to her! This weekend was really great and full of artistic ventures. Along with starting to draw, I also got a chance to really mellow out and listen to great music this weekend. Those of you who know me know that I worship music. I enjoy all types of it, but deep down I am a classic rock fanatic. On Saturday, I went to my friends house where we drank wine, made a mouth watering steak, carrot, and potato dinner, and we listened to some fucking brilliant music! Obviously, we began the night listening to Zeppelin- they are my favourite band. One of my favourite songs by them is Since I've Been Loving You. It was great because we were listening to a the live DVD version, so we got to see the band as youths, and it was mind blowing to see Robert Plant at 19 years old just singing his fucking heart out, and feeling the music.

We continued the night with more wine and great tunes! One of the bands that I was introduced to was Killing Joke. They are EPIC! It's crazy, because when you listen to them they sound so contemporary, but they are from the 70's! They were one of the biggest punk rock influences of their time, making an impact on bands like Nirvana and Metallica. It's bands like Zeppelin and Killing Joke that have this magical quality of opening your pours and getting their music to seep into your bloodstream. You feel so in tune with every word, every note, every pitch- you just understand them, and can't help but groove with it, and mellow out to the music. I'm quite excited actually, because Killing Joke is going to be coming to Vancity in December to play a show, so I'll be able to see them live! I always wished I lived in the 60's and 70's, so that I would be able to go and see these extraordinary artists perform live, and now I have a chance to see a band that had a great influence on my favourite generation's music.

This is one of my favourite songs by the Killing Joke. It's called Honour the Fire, and it's off of their latest album,

Absolute Dissent.

This weekend I also finished reading my favourite novel White Oleander by Janet Fitch. I've read it before, but the last time I read it I was much younger, so it was interesting to compare my perspective of the novel now, as opposed to when I was 16. I absolutely love this book. It's so raw and honest, and you really feel connected with the character, as she pours her secrets out to you, depicting her life as a foster child going through several different foster homes. The story is set in Los Angeles, California, and it depicts the life of Astrid Magnussen, a young child who's mother commits murder and is sent to jail. Astrid is then forced into several foster homes, and the novel gives a detailed account of the struggles that she faces; being betrayed and abandoned, falling in love, losing the only person that has ever loved her, and ultimately, salvaging herself through all of the brutality and hardship she faces. This is a beautiful novel, and it makes one appreciate humanity and the human spirit that is embedded in us all. I would definitely recommend reading White Oleander to all- it truly changes your perspective of life and makes you realize that there are more important things than materialistic values.

Overall, I want to really dive deep into myself. I want to understand more of myself, and not just the analytical and technical side, but the artistic and unknown side that has been left untouched. Winter time's a great time to reflect on yourself, well for me at least, because you're giving yourself an opportunity to learn about yourself during all of the downtime that you have. Instead of sitting inside and hibernating, waiting for the cold to pass, I'm making sure that I use this time to build on myself and my artistic side, so that when Spring comes along with it's fresh new flowers and trees, I will be in full bloom as well.

The September Issue

I ended up sleeping in this morning, but the beautiful day drew my attention away from what usually gets me pretty upset. Instead of scrambling up and panicking to get ready and catch my bus so I can head to school, I decided to give myself a break, sleep in some more, and watch a movie. I decided to watch "The September Issue", a documentary chronicling Anna Wintour and her remarkable staff, creating the September 2007 Issue of Vogue. For those who don't know, not only can Vogue be considered the Fashion Bible, but a September issue is like the celebration of a New Year. September Issues are a fresh start to the season, and they are by far the largest and thickest editions amongst the year.

Funny enough, back in 2007 when I was still 15 years old, I picked up this exact copy myself, and I still have it to this day. This is the issue that was worked and documented on for the film. I myself have aspirations to become a fashion magazine editor myself, like Ms. Wintour, so this film was not only an inspiration, but it got me so excited and it really gave me chills to watch these magnificent people create a work of art, that is the movement for the fashion world.

Every single inch of fashion, is either dictated or decided upon by Anna Wintour. The power that she has over the fashion world is remarkable. She has the ability to not only inspire people and catalyze fashion movements, but she is the one who decides what is in, and what is definitely out. She was the lady who brought back fur into the fashion scene, and launched many designers and made them who they are today. Although she is renowned for her ice cold glares, I found her to be quite humorous, charming, and chic. She is also very decisive, and knows exactly what she wants, which is a trait that I really wish to emanate.

What I loved about the documentary is that it was a microscopic view of the talent, and effort that was used in order to create the issue. We were able to see showings, meetings, snippets of events, and photo shoots. It was great to see Thakoon, a brilliant young designer, just beginning his career. As well, the movie showed icons like Mario Testinto, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Patrick Demarchelier at work and doing what they do best. I really grew a liking to Vogue's Creative Director, Grace Coddington. She's sharp, witty, zestful, and full of raw talent. Her imagination is so refined and brilliant. In one of her shoots, she emanated the 20s era, drawing inspiration from classic 20s women and their pearls, sipping cocktails in sassy restaurants. Here are some of the photos from that shoot.

These were a few of my favourite shots from this spread. I think they're a magnificent depiction of the 20s era, highlighting the class and sophistication of the fashion during that time. Another brilliant shoot that Grace did was for Colour Blocking- juxtaposing bold colours to create a remarkable look that is so modern and contemporary, it's a surprise that it was created in 2007 and not 2010.

This is a brilliant picture! Grace actually got the camera man filming the documentary to be a part of the shoot at the last minute. It was so fascinating to see it being shot, and to understand the inspiration and imagination behind Grace's thoughts for the shoot! Absolutely remarkable! And, it even made Anna smile, which is as rare as the apocalypse!

What I really enjoyed about the movie was not just the expression and insight into the world of fashion and the art form it exudes, but the women who were portrayed as such beautiful, intelligent, and absolutely fierce power houses. Anna and Grace are two women I admire, not only for their ability to represent beauty and art in the form of fashion, but because of their wrought iron will, and their determination to be the best at all times, and to make use of their talents! These two ladies are definitely women that I only hope to emanate when I am older.

This documentary was fabulous! It was quirky, witty, humorous, inventive, and above all, it really depicted the resilient work that goes into creating a magazine, and the lifestyle that people lead in the fashion world.

I wish I wasn't in fantasy land, and actually possessed all of these items! Sometimes when I'm on www.polyvore.com I get so into it that I completely forget that I don't actually own these items, which ends up being a disappointment, but I can still keep dreaming, right? I WISH I was wearing this outfit right now! I'm ADORING the Julien Macdonald Cable Sweater- it's cozy and comfortable, yet the details make it edgy so that you can dress it up. Paired with Harem pants, the sweater is enhanced and becomes the focal point of the outfit. With some bold accessories like the Badgley Mischka Shoulderbag and the Yves St. Laurent Arty Glass Ring, the outfit completely falls into place and compliments each other with the colours and the textures. Throw on some Dior Retro Inspired Glasses, and Fendi Boots (I could cry right now, I love all of these items!), and you're ready to hit the town and cause a riot, all the while being cool, calm, collected, and extremely fashionable!

COMMENCE, the weekend! This week lagged on; it was filled with school, work, more school, friends, and sushi. On Wednesday night I spent the night in with the girls, sipping wine, and taking pictures. I was lucky enough to meet Alex, a super rad and exceptional photographer- he can never take a bad shot! You guys should check him out at www.sharpshutterstudio.com. As for today, I spent the last couple of hours going to school, coming back home, fiddling around on www.polyvore.com, and munching out. Commuting to and from school can really drain my energy, but I had a really yummy salad with pomegranates in it so now I'm super charged for the weekend. What's on the roster for tonight? Going to a friends, hanging around, taking pictures, and definitely causing mayhem. Hope you guys have a good one.

Winter's finally beginning to set in. The sunless sky makes the world look grey, off-set, not how it normally is. It's during this time of year that I start becoming a hermit. On cold, rainy days, I love doing nothing but staying inside, either at home or at a friend's house, cozying up, watching nostalgic movies, and listening to kick-ass tunes. This weekend was no exception. Friday night was very adventuresome. Me and some friends mellowed out, listened to great music, sipped wine, made cookies, and began our own magical adventure into the realm of spirituality- with some help of course. On top of that, my best friend Alix found my necklace that I lost, which made my night that much greater. I've had that necklace since I was 14 and I've worn it every day since then. When she found it, I went from cloud 9 to cloud 13...again, it's all about the simple pleasures. I couldn't have asked for anything more. Sometimes, when you feel like you're lacking something- when you feel like there is something missing in your life- all you need to do is sit back, relax, and take a look at all that is surrounding you. You have to learn to live with what you have, and appreciate it. What would life be without friends to comfort you, music to flow into your bloodstream, and cookies to munch on? Who cares about everything else? It's the bare necessities that matter. Friends, music, munchies, and maybe even a little pick me up to make the present even that much greater than it already is. Remember, when in doubt, close your eyes, and imagine the world at your feet- you can see anything that you want to, be anything that you please. It's the simple things that count, baby, the simple things.

If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad...

...that's exactly that I learned this weekend. Most of the times, what you love, want and need, makes you happy, but wears away at a huge part of you at the same time. Don't you ever notice, the one person you love, is also the same person who has the potential to hurt you the most. The one thing that you dream of being in life, is often the greatest struggle to accomplish. The things that make you the happiest, are also the things that cause you the greatest grief. This week really engraved a huge lesson in my mind; I've learned to accept life and all of the beauty and dismay that it contains, for what it is. Everything is just ONE BIG MOMENT. What makes you happy now, will inevitably change. In comparison, what gives you sorrow, will eventually cease to bother you. If you just live in this MOMENT, this PRESENT, you can deal with the emotions that life gives you, instead of being overwhelmed by them. If you realize that what you feel is just a temporary thing, and that it will pass, life won't be such a burden. If you live with the knowledge that everything is ONE BIG MOMENT, you will be able to gain the virtue that is CHANGE. Everything changes, nothing stays the same. For better or for worse, life moves on, and nothing remains as it was. With this being said, you have to learn to not only take advantage of all opportunities, but to EMBRACE THE MOMENT, and love it for what it is- because you never know when that moment is going to leave you, and if you are ever going to get it back.

Everywhere, and No where

I've been everywhere, yet have gotten no where at the same time...life's a hurdle sometimes, but you just got to take the punches, and roll with the waves. Sometimes it fills you up with warmth and you feel like the sun is always going to be shining down on you, lighting up your path, and other times, you get drenched by the rain and the gloomy clouds never seem to disappear. That's the beauty of it though, isn't it? I mean, how would you be able to feel unbeatable and on top of the world, if you have never been able to experience the demonic lows. Life is an untrodden trail, fresh and pristine with unlimited twists and turns...however, they are all up to you. Your life, depends on the short cuts, the long journeys, the twisted roads, the enchanted forests that you are willing to walk through, and the footprints that you leave behind.

These last few weeks dissolved like sugar in tea. Up until now, I've underestimated the cliche "time flys by", but man does it ever! This weekend was quite adventurous, funny, sweet, rowdy, and in the end, just another set of footprints that I imprinted on my world. Thursday was fun. I went nic-nac shopping with a friend who was a little clueless about what they needed in their new place. Let's just say, if you're going to go to Walmart, or Ikea, make sure you give yourself at least the entire day, have some good friends to accompany you, and NEVER forget the maryjane. Thursday was followed by a nice dinner; pasta and wine, which really hit the spot. And then, the WEEEKEND. Friday was reserved for an Ikea trip. I fucking LOVE that store! It's too much fun. I felt like Charlie in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. At night, me and some friends indulged in Crown Royal, and mellowed out which was much needed- I really needed a night to recharge all my energy. Saturday night was pretty eventful. I met up with some friends at the Biltmore, we kind of got stuck in the rain for a half hour which made me go loony, but then we ended up heading to a party, so it was inevitable for my mood to get better- who's ever sad at a party? Well actually, aside from drunk girls crying, and people fighting, parties are fun! Between going apeshit at Ikea, eating a delicious meal, getting cozy, watching movies, getting stuck in the rain, and partying my pants off, I would say, all in all, it was one hell of a weekend.

A Hint of What is Yet to Come

Midterms tomorrow! Not gonna lie, I'm tweaking out a bit, but I think I'll manage. Just at the library right now, but before I start this studying madness I thought I'de quickly fill you guys in on what's going to be happening!

I was lucky enough to contact 212 co-designer Scott (Anthony, who is also 212's co-designer is in New York right now), who I helped out this past August with their fashion show (which was incredible!)
He told me that most likely he'll be able to do an interview on Friday! So, cross your fingers, everything will fall into place and I'll be able to pick a part his brain and see his perspective of the industry and the West coast!

I should probably be studying for my Psych midterm that's this Thursday, but I tend to have the attention span of a peanut sometimes, so for now I'm just gonna entertain myself, and you guys of course :)

I'm just at the Starbucks on campus now, mellowing out, blogging....trying to study but it's an utter fail. It's so beautiful outside today! I've been meaning to take pics of Vancouver so that I can post them, so hopefully by tonight they'll be up!

Also, on the way to school today I was thinking about cool things that I can add to my blog, and I thought it would be pretty neat to blog about the hip fashion designers that are in Vancouver. Hopefully I'll be able to score some interviews, so that you lovelies will be able to get VIP passes into the core of Vancouver's fashion scene, and really feel the essence, spunk, and sophistication of these amazing local artists and designers.

Just woke up from my cat nap...kinda relieving since I was disgustingly tired, but kinda terrible, since I also have a disgusting amount of readings to do for my midterm.

In times of stress like this, what else is a girl to do to take her mind off of things...?

Before I start working over time for midterms, I thought I'd have some fun and play dress up!

Yayy! I love these, they make me smile! I bought them last week at the Aldo Outlet store. They are a rendition on the classic style that have been hot on designer runways for the past half decade now! These one's are super puurrrtty! They're a nice creamy taupe with a wooden platform...not to mention that they have a 5 inch heel (no one's gonna mess around when I'm wearing these babies!)

I'd love to own a pair of these Christian Louboutin's, so chic and classic

OR better yet... these fucken' knock outs! They're on a whole other planet...an uncharted one at that! No one has taken fashion to another level like Alexander McQueen did.

But for now....I have to settle for these little bundles of joy!

*sigghhhhh* Damn, I love shoes.

Anywho, I have to stop daydreaming and get back to studying :(

Oh, rainy days...

Beautiful BC; the mountains all around, the pacific ocean at your feet, the fresh salty ocean air, and of course...the rain...oh the glory!

I woke up this morning, and had ten minutes to get to my class, which was lovely seeing as though I'm an hour away from campus. Took a nice warm shower while listening to some wake up tunes, changed into my basic look (black leggings, black cami, and an oversized wool cardigan), and hustled my ass to the bus stop to start my day!

It was fuckin' freezing outside! I looked like a moron shivering and smoking my cigarette but the thought of it made me laugh, so all is swell!

However, this weather has got me realizing that this Toronto bitty needs to add some staple items and essentials to her wardrobe.

Here is my 1st TOP TEN LIST, of FALL NECESSITIES! (by the way, as I am typing this in one of the Campus Libraries, there is someone smashing glass or some sort of fragile object outside the window, so bare with me if my train of thought is off kilter)

Okay, so here it goes, in deductive order;

(10) A nice pair of dark, skinny Levi's

(9) An oversized cardigan (I have my eye on one from Urban Outfitters, the brand is Ecote)

(8) Harem pants!!!!! MUST MUST MUST HAVE THEM!!!

(7) A black, wool, long sleeve dress

(6) A jean jacket, that I can add patches to and tatter up

(5) A classic black hoodie, preferably zip-up

(4) Tall moccasins! With the pretty fur and beads!! LOVE LOVE LOVE

(2) Mackage Wool Trenchcoat, because its too kick ass

and the creme de la creme,

(1) HUNTER BOOTS!!! for the torrential rain that I will soon have to endure

Luckily though, I scored BIG TIME with my hunter boots, so that's one item down!

The Mackage Trenchcoat will have to wait for now, although they are all drool worthy, a hundo-p! (for those who are slang-impaired, it means a hundred percent lol)

New ventures, fresh beginnings! Born and raised in Toronto, I moved out to Vancouver this summer to start a whole new expedition! I came out West for school and a new lifestyle. I am a full time student and fashion junkie. I'm majoring in English at UBC, and I hope to run the world some day (just kidding- well, maybe not, hehe), and become a magazine editor. I don't want to bore you with the technicalities so let's just get straight to the goods. I'm 18, vibrant, fun-loving, wild, weird, temperamental, nerdy, and an Aquarius (that's right- I'm obsessed with Zodiac signs). I love reading, writing, music, taking pictures, thrift shopping, vinyl, maryjane, Crown Royal, Belmonts, and my pug Timone. Above all, I am afflicted with being a fashion junkie. I love every single nook and cranny of fashion, from designing, to styling, to photography...the works. My favourite looks are grunge and bohemian chic; mixing East Coast glamour with West Coast spunk. I'm still a newbie with this whole blog jargon, but I hope you guys are able to get a peek into my world and lifestyle, and see the things that I love and live for. I'll be blogging regularly about everything from designers, to new looks, city life, photography, books, what I'm up to, and basically, anything that catches my eye.
